Walking around in Taipei you’ll notice that everything is wrapped in plastic. Everything is given to you on little plastic bags. Sometimes you get plastic bags for something in a plastic bag. (Breadsticks insinde a plastic bag inside a plastic bag) Also the high concentration of bubble tea and milk tea shops are also producing …
Day 1 – The flight and arrival in Ximending district, Taipei, Taiwan
The trip to Taiwan was perfect. The train had no delay, we had enough time at the airport and the security checks were fast and without any problems. The flight itself had a 30min delay because of high traffic at the runway (yes, even there there’s traffic 🙄) and some minor turbulences but nothing where …
Here we go again
The next vacation is at the doorstep! I just came from an awesome camping trip with some friends, had one day to pack my stuff and now I’m on the way to the airport with a friend of mine. This time we’re going to Taiwan! Super hyped already, althoug my luggage wasn’t that excited as …
Day 31
I woke up, packed everything together and checked out of my hotel. I walked a last time around and bought a thing or two. Then I got to the Tattoo studio to say goodbye. They wished me the best and gave me some advices for Cambodia. I really hope to meet the soon again 🙂
At 3 o’clock my bus went from Saigon to Phnom Penh, at about 9pm I arrived at my hotel. I went out to eat something and then went to bed. I’m in the Happy House Backpacker hostel in the 13th street, it’s very cheap and you see also why. I am in a 20 bed room if I counted correctly and there is a very small bathroom. It’s really okay for the price, about 3$ per night and it’s not really gross or dirty. And with the location it’s pretty good, the Wat Phnom temple is about 10min walking away, the city centre should also be pretty near and a street full of bars is also just a corner away^^
Sadly I didn’t took any pictures of the bus ride because I was sleeping almost the whole time^^
Some thoughts
I think no country is really perfect, every has it’s own struggles and bad sides, but you should always look on both sides. In the beginning a country can be so exiting and awesome that you maybe don’t see the bad sites but there are always some, and you should not oversee them. But also …
Day 30
Today I almost did nothing 🙈
I hung out at the tattoo studio all day^^ I already started to help them with bringing tissues, holding lights and stuff haha. I talked again a lot with them, with one I talked about Ho Chi Minh, he said he hates him because he’s in real a traitor of Vietnam who sold Vietnam to China but all papers who would prove that were burnt. I don’t know how much of that is true or not but I will look it up and try to understand more of the story of Vietnam. Also I have to learn Vietnamese so we can talk better about that 😅
He also told me that China is slowly trying to suck up Vietnam and that they try to ruin the Vietnamese economy by selling rice cheaper than local rice as well as other cheap and unhealthy products.
Anyways, we talked also about funnier topics like girls, visiting my home country, getting some tattoos and our future destinations 😀
We ate together some and after the shop closed three of us went to a bar, ate a bit and cheered to my last night in Saigon 😋 I also tried Oyster for the first time, it tasted pretty good!
I even got a small present from a friend in form of his cap, which looks very nice 👌
Today I got some nice pictures of tattoos!
Edit to Day 29
I Just looked it up and I think I was at a wrong market 🙈Maybe the other one is really full^^But then anyways there is a smaller but calmer market just around the corner you should check up 😅
Day 29
In the morning I went to the Cu Chi tunnels, it’s like two hours or so from Ho Chi Minh. I can really recommend to go there, the tour that I had was a ½ Day tour from 8:30 am till around 1pm so it doesn’t really costs you a lot of time and it’s also enough to see everything. The tour consisted of 4 Parts, A Propagandafilm about the Guerrilla soldiers, a tour where all the traps and ideas from the soldiers is shown and a walk through the narrow underground tunnels, a shooting range where you can try out some of the old weapons they used during the time and a eating part where you can try what the soldiers ate everyday, Taro. Its kinda like I imagine a sweet potato would taste like, it’s shaped like a longer but thiner potato and also looks like it. I found it pretty tasty but eating just that everyday would be a little bit boring^^ The soldiers ate it because it grows very fast and almost everywhere in the jungle.
After the tour I got out a little bit away from my hotel to go to the streetfoodmarket near the binh tanh market and visited both. At the streetfoodmarket I got some real good Indian Chicken Vindaloo with Onion Pharata and a Mango lassi, back to the roots I guess^^
After this great meal I went to the binh tanh market and bought some stuff like chilis, lotusseeds (which taste soo different than I thought^^ much more crunchy and not really like a nut what I had expected 🙈) and some other stuff for back home. In the internet stood the market would be packed with people and you would really have to fight to get to the center… Well when I went there (about 3pm) the market was relatively empty and I could easily walk through.
I then went back to my friends from the tattoo studio and chilled with them again, watched some videos, talked with them about tattoos, culture and life in Vietnam and watched how they made their sketches and tattooed people. The guys make some awesome work, I will post some of their works when I get good shots at them.
Day 28
After a breakfast in form of a burger with sausages instead of a patty, which was still very delicious, I went to the central post office to send a postcard.
In the post office were also some souvenirshops who sold some nice stuff which even weren’t that expensive as I thought. After that I looked at the Notre Dame cathedral next to the post office, I just saw it from the outside because it had opened much later and I was to lazy to come back later^^
I went then home and accidentally slept a while. I went to a café and then to a Spa where I had to promise the a girl that handed out flyers of the Spa to tourists. It was crazy in the street I was, almost every 10 m somebody wants to give you a flyer and that you come to their place^^
I got a whole body vietnamese massage which was really great, they cracked some bones in my body I didn’t even know they could crack like my ears and even my scalp!
If you’re in Vietnam you should really get one, they’re super cheap and are really good! I paid like 6$ for 1h of a great massage.
For the guys maybe just say you have a girlfriend, that makes it a little easier to deny some certain extra services…^^
I then went to the tattoo shop from yesterday and went out to eat with one of the guys. I got a rice porridge with duck and some bread pieces which was pretty tasty, I just forgot to take a picture of it 🙈
After the meal I got this drink which tastes a little bit like red bull and is also something like this.
In the evening we went all together to a bar a the street and enjoyed the night. It was very nice and I find it very nice that sitting in a bar here also means to eat a lot of stuff 😅😋
We got some fried gristle pieces, a sun-dried and then fried fish, chicken feet and my highlight: the duck embryo! One of the guys invited me to one so I finally had the chance to try it ( I think alone I probably hadn’t buy me one^^). It tasted really not bad, you get lime and chili with it to dip it in and it’s real nice, it doesn’t tastes that different from a normal egg and sort of looks like it when you peel it. But if you break it open you can see all the details, like the freshly developed head and stuff 😛
Was a great experience to try it^^
Day 27
Today I’ve met some nice dudes near my hotel and after a breakfast in form of a Banh Mi. We went to their place which was a tattoo studio, as I found out they were some pretty good tattoo artists! They showed me their tatts and some of their work it looked really awesome. I also had the chance to see how they Made a Tattoo, you can’t quite see on the Picture what it was, it was a sunflower which looked really awesome! I talked also a lot with the people here, they told very much stuff about the City, the land in general, excercise and many other things. The time went by so quickly that I stayed unintended at their place until they closed 😅. After that, two of them invited me to go to a weed-bar with them^^ They had a lot of gimmicky stuff like weed infused mango lassi or weed-food, but I’m not sure they would’ve actually worked^^ Anyways, we just went for beers as the two had to work the next day. It was really nice, we had a “drink and draw” session which was pretty funny as you can see on the picture.
The soup on the picture was a pork noodlesoup with two kinds of noodles in it, it was pretty good.
One of the Tattoo artists has an Instagram account, called Urreneti you should really check out his page, he does great tatts!
